Yves Saint Laurent, born in Algeria, when is only 17 years old starts to work for Christian Dior.
When Dior dies Yves Saint Laurent succeeds him until 1962, when he starts his own label.
Yves Saint Laurent was the symbol of elegance, refinement and innovation.
Innovating and modernizing the feminine image, he was able to put fashion into the everyday life and to make everyday life a source of inspiration for fashion.
He was the first to make the typical male wardrobe penetrate the woman’s runaway. Things as the trench coat, Le Smoking, the peacoat , the shirt dress turned to high fashion for women, reflecting the emancipation of women in the second half of the Nineteenth century.
To Yves Saint Laurent belong also the first ethnic-inspired contaminations which enriched many of his collections.
Elegant and refined, always according to the mainstream, the YSL label ( in 2002 acquired by Gucci Group) has been a great source of inspiration for all the main designers after him.
