Born in 1963, Marc Jacobs attends the Parson School of Design in New York and, nowadays, he has been the youngest designer ever to win the prestigious Council of Feshion Designers of America Perry Ellis Award in 1987.
In 1993 he starts out his own label and he took on Vuitton in 1997 as Artistic Director.
Marc Jacobs can be considered as the grounge-chich designer who looks for beauty in the imperfection. As he himself states, he’s not a rebel, but he is against the clichés, against the obvious, the banal. He enjoys himself mashing-up far different things which, put togheter, can get fine. His ability in making every object become nice, combining the aesthetic harmony with the new expressive patterns, led him to capture the attention of many celebrities which have been seduced by his always elegant and never banal traits.
Thanks to Marc Jacobs, for instance, the Matelassè it’s not more a symbol of vintage elegance, but it turns out to be a contemporary feature with accessories, small studs and chains.
