Style:
a new chapter for Maison Dior, as of now lacking the extraordinary, unmatched visionary talent of John Galliano. A vision that needs to be rebuilt, as has already happened in its past history, with its testimony having changed hands many times. The strength of the Maison, as Sidney Toledano recalls in his speech at the beginning of the fashion show, is certainly in the genius of its designers, but resides overall in the excellence of its savoir-faire, in the extraordinary ability of its petites mains, capable of translating any designed acrobatic into perfect execution. And is it all the workers in white shirts, at the end of the fashion show, prepared without the presence of Galliano, who appear on the catwalk, uniting the public in a touching round of applause, which emotionally seals the end of a memorable cycle, hard to forget and (maybe) to overcome
Lengths:
short or knee-length skirts, long evening dresses
Colours:
palette in rich autumn shades. Black, anthracite, navy blue, petroleum blue, sky blue, dark green, olive green, eau-de-nil, rust, ruby red, bordeaux, plum, peach, dusty pink
Fabrics:
the romanticism of the theme is heightened by soft, feminine fabrics: velvet, cashmere, chiffon, silk organza, faille, nappa, suède, fur, tapisserie wool, knitwear, feathers, tulle, lace
Shapes:
the fashion show is inspired by the dynamics of the Romantic era English poets. The inspiration is, however, translated into feminine and easy shapes, with no concession to theatrics or visionary styling. Important poncho-style coats and long redingotes are worn with small nappa jackets and velvet knickerbockers; short pouf skirts in crunchy faille or suede plissé accompany blouses in chiffon and jackets in velvet; fox ring collars rest on cashmere sweaters and coats. Long transparent chiffon dresses for the evening, worked into little flounces or short in imperial style in overlapped voile layers
Accessories:
large, wide-brimmed hats. Leather lace-up musketeer boots with platform heels, or lace-up bottine-boots
